Mother’s Day on a Student Budget

Mother’s Day is a day to treat the most important woman in your life… your Mum, or as we say in Newcastle, your Mam! Being a student can become very straining, especially on your bank account. Don’t worry though, here at Newcastle Student Housing, we have tips and tricks to help you make the most of your Mother’s Day.

Treat Her to a Roast

Whether you take her out for a spot of Sunday lunch or make it yourself (even better!) your Mother will be incredibly appreciative. The best thing about a traditional Sunday dinner is that it’s one of the most famous British meals. With Mother’s Day falling on a Sunday it won’t be hard to find a restaurant that sells a Sunday roast.

If you’re also wanting a day out, why not head up to Northumberland? Not only do we believe one of the best Sunday lunches is at William De Percy, in Otterburn, but they are also surrounded by beautiful country views, perfect for a country walk!

Your Time

Simply enough, dedicate some time together. Mother’s Day is a day for celebrating your Mam and the best way to do this is to spend it with her and appreciate her in person. Some of our favourite things to do with our mam:

• Go for a walk in your local park or beach and end it with an ice cream sundae
• Go shopping – everyone knows a lady loves to shop, especially if it’s for her own Mother’s Day gift!
• Treat her to a delicious meal at her favourite restaurant. We love Antico, an Italian restaurant in the heart of Jesmond and the best thing is it offers 25% student discount!

A Photo Album

Over the years, you, your siblings and your parents probably have enough photographs to fill more albums than you could count, but in recent years people have taken to posting these photographs in digital albums on social media, rather than having hard copies.

Why not create a photo album or scrapbook, with your favourite memories together. You could even write little anecdotes and attach ticket stubs and other memory invoking items.  

Breakfast in Bed

Although it isn’t written in stone, it is still a rule we would never break! Breakfast in bed is such a heartwarming gesture, that can require little to no effort but will make your Mum incredibly happy. The best thing about this is it can be started young, whether you have siblings who are 5 up through to 25, there is plenty to be done in terms of creating a beautiful start to your mother’s special day.
