Newcastle students have a wide choice of restaurants to choose from as there are many in the city centre but finding the right ones can be hard.
Let’s face it, being a student is tough! Trying to fit in all the studying, that group presentation and have a social life? Remembering to do your food shop can easily slip your mind.
Here at Newcastle Student Housing, we’ve put together a list of all the places in Newcastle we think you should try which come at student friendly prices. Take a look at the list below of restaurants in the city centre and surrounding areas including Jesmond and Heaton.
We thought we would start out with a favourite for all Newcastle students which is pizza and even though you may be used to eating this at 3am after a night out, The Herb Garden is definitely worth a try!
If you’re not feeling your usual self from the night before then they also offer a £5 lunchtime takeaway deal where you can order a selected 9” pizza and a chocolate pudding for just £5! Or if you just can’t wait till lunchtime, then there is always the option of brunch!
If you and your friends fancy something more interesting than your usual meal deal during lunch then why not pop to Zapatista Burrito Bar. The food from here is fresh and delicious and they even have two locations in Newcastle city centre so Newcastle students never have to travel that far for that burrito again!
Over the years, we have noticed Pani’s becoming a firm favourite with Newcastle students due to its unique menu at cheap prices. There are different menus for day and night and regular specials so there is always something new to try to excite your taste buds.
Nudo Noodle House is hidden away on Low Friar Street (behind The Gate) and is full of delicious Asian food to try. There is a large variety here with the options of sushi, small tapas dishes and larger mains.
All the ingredients are freshly prepared and made to order and is a great place to try if you are after something a little different.
Ernest is a great little find in Ouseburn which has a cool, understated feel about it. They are open from morning till night and serve a variety of food from Brunch to dinner. It’s worth a mention that they have been named as one of the top 10 best brunch spots in Newcastle and don’t worry if you’re not an early riser because Brunch lasts till 2pm most days. Ernest also creates daily specials of main courses and cakes.
Check their website for upcoming events that include music and evening dance classes.
Jesmond is a popular choice for many students when they are looking for somewhere to live during term time and there are also a few really good places to get a bite to eat.
The Fat Hippo has been a firm favourite with students and it’s not hard to see why with their juicy burgers and sumptuous desserts. The Fat Hippo in Jesmond is so good that there is two of them in Newcastle just so you can get your fix.
Arlo’s is the perfect place in Jesmond for anything you need to eat from morning till night. They have a great selection of locally sourced ingredients to create amazing dishes including a classic full English breakfast to their classic Arlo’s open sandwich.
The Butterfly Cabinet is a small café based in the heart of Heaton which is very popular with students due to their large portions and all day dining options. The Butterfly Cabinet can cater for customers at all times of the day including breakfast, lunch and dinner.
