Friends Happiness Enjoying Dinning Eating Concept

Does the thought of cooking fill you with fear? Would you much prefer to order your food, go out or cook oven food every day? Well unfortunately most bank balances won’t fulfil that luxury lifestyle!

So by getting the hang of some basic dishes, it will not only save you money, but it will also be a healthier option, making you feel better in yourself. Once you have mastered a few dishes, you can then start to show off in front of your friends and family. This however doesn’t happen overnight, so we have created a list for you, to help with the essentials you’ll need.

#1 Seasoning

Make sure you have a good selection of seasonings in your cupboards. They can add that little extra kick to your meal, turning what would have been a bland meal to a great tasty dish. With this in mind, you will be able to buy cheaper/own brands as the seasoning will enhance any flavours which may be missing.

#2 Stock up on basics

Every cupboard needs its basics, and when you are student this is no exception. Pasta will probably become your main component to meals, and by the end of your time at university, you will probably be sick of the sight of it. In addition to this, by stocking up on the basics, will save you money in the long run as you won’t have to buy each item individually. Although it may be expensive at first, trust us, you will thank us later on!

#3 Learn a base sauce

If you are going to learn one recipe while at university, we would suggest to cook a tomato sauce. These are not only great for pasta, but also dishes like, stews, casseroles, Bolognese and chilli con carne. As it is a diverse sauce, it’s a great one to get started on. You can change the components added to it and will transform into a completely different dish.

#4 Meal planning

Planning your meals is a great way not to get distracted by other food while shopping. If you go with a plan you tend to stick to it more and not get swayed by temptation. It is also a good idea to meal prep, this is where you will batch cook your food and serve it into different containers. Then putting them into the freezer until you want to eat it. It’s a great way to save money and also time if you can’t be bothered to cook one night after a long day at uni!

#5 Cook in groups

A great way to save money (and also have fun!) is to shop and cook in groups. As usually food comes in groups of 2 or more, it might be easier and cost effective to cook in groups.
